Description |
Machine-stitched display quilt that consists of ten individually designed squares from the following Delaware community organizations: Playhouse Theater, Cokesbury Quilting Club, Delaware State Fair, Birthright of Delaware, Inc., Within Us Green Acres Sewing Club, "Loaves and Fishes" Trinity Episcopal Church, The Franciscan Center, Riverside Hospital and Extensive Care Pavillion, The Indo-American Association of Delaware, and the Clarence Fraim Senior Center Fraim Quilters . This quilt was labelled as Panel #12 in the original display. Each of the individual squares employ multiple craft methods that include sewing, embroidery, painting, drawing, writing, printing, and various appliqué techniques. The squares are sewn in two vertically-oriented rows of five onto a dark blue fabric backing with a moiré pattern. The edges of the backing fabric are stuffed and quilted in a double border design while the center portion that holds the squares is unstuffed. There is a hanging sleeve at the upper end. |

This community quilt project was originally on display in the Delaware Art Museum's Downtown Gallery at 919 Market Street in Wilmington from December 1, 2000 until February 11, 2001. The original project consisted of twenty-five quilts assembled from individual squares created by various community organizations in Delaware. The Delaware Historical Society received twenty-one of these quilts. |
