Civil War era socket bayonet designed for the Model 1853-59 .577 caliber English Enfield rifle-musket that was used by both Union and Confederate forces during the Civil War. The bayonet has a 17 1/4" long triangular blade and 13/16" diameter socket for attaching it to a rifle. The top edge of the blade is stamped with "I.W. / 1 / H.R."
