Description Framed, oil on masonite painting of the Holly Tree Inn in Wilmington by John M. Roderick. The painting depicts a street scene of a yellow clapboarded building (the Holly Tree Inn) on a corner surrounded by brick buildings. Seven figures mill about in front of the inn and there is a train track with locomotive in the foreground. The frame is silver painted wood with "Market & Water Street 1870" written in white along the center of the lower edge. This painting was done from a photo that appeared in the March 1933 issue of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce News Bulletin. The Holly tree Inn at 8 Market Street was in business from 1875-1884.
