Description Federal Style pianoforte with a rectangular, two-part case and keyboard. The lower case has two drawers with glass knobs and a cut-out arch in between them and stands on four rope twist legs that terminate in ball feet. The upper case has bands of satinwood inlay, a sheet music holder, and ten brass hinges.The instrument has 62 red and white dampers, 121 steel rods, and numbered wood hammers. There is an oval cartouche above the keyboard with the maker's name: "Carolus Trute/ Wilmington." The base is an 1830s replacement.

Provenance This pianoforte originally belonged to Elizabeth Bush (b. 1800?) who married John McLear. The donor, Mrs. Harriet McLear Hall, was the granddaughter of original owner.
