Description Sampler on linen that is embroidered in dark brown with a border of alphabet letters in capitals around three sides. This border surrounds a four line poem: "Permit thy gracious name to stand / As the first effort of my youthful hand / And while my fingers o'er this canvass [sic] move / Engage my tender heart to seek thy love." The work is signed "Mary Elizabeth Boys / 1845 / EHR."
