Description Hand-sewn, dark green wool uniform coat with a cutaway-style front and tails. The coat is lined in coarse beige linen. It has a red collar, cuffs, and lapel front and beige trim on the face of the tails. The buttons are brass and arranged in two rows at the front. Brass buttons also trim each cuff and pocket. The coat has four false pockets on the body and one real pocket at the base of each tail. There are two small horizontal heart motifs at the base of each tail and a small red triangle at the upper part of the tails.

Provenance This uniform coat was worn by the donor's grandfather, Captain Aaron Swiggett, an officer in the Seaford militia during the War of 1812. He fought at the Battle of Lewes.
