The vest is stamped with "G. Gouert, Tailor / 11/ E. 4th St. / Wilmington, Del. / Clement B. Smyth Esq." The buckle is stamped with a patent date of 1854-55.
Hand & machine stitched man's white silk moiré waistcoat with a single back buckle. It has five silk-covered buttons at the front with hand-stitched button holes and three pockets (two on the left, one on the right) at the front. The maker's stamp is stamped in black on the lining of the back and the buckle has a patent date stamp of 1854-55.
