Description Machine-stitched, wool American Stars and Stripes flag with seven red and six white printed stripes. The 31 1/2" x 22 1/4" navy blue canton contains forty stars that are printed onto the fabric. All of the edges are finished. The flag is affixed to a 2" wide canvas hoist with three brass eyelets. One side of the hoist is printed with "4 x 6 ft." The forty star flag was short-lived. It was created on November 2, 1889 (South Dakota's entry into the Union) but became obsolete six days later when Montana became the 41st state.
