Description Unframed silhouette of George Lodge (1797-1880) of Brandywine Hundred, who married Anne Cloud in 1822. This silhouette is one of a pair done at the time of their marriage. The 3" x 1 1/2" silhouette depicts a man in profile facing left. The figure has a high forehead and prominent nose. The portrait has been cut out from white paper that has been mounted over a piece of black paper to provide contrast and set behind a piece of glass that has been reverse-painted in black with a scalloped oval opening trimmed with paired silver teardrop motifs and a silver rosette in each corner. The paper beneath the portrait has an impressed Peale's Museum stamp that features an eagle with spread wings over text "Peale's Museum" in banner format.
