Provenance According to the donor, this drum was used during the Civil War by his friend, John T. Yates, who enlisted as a Musician in the First Delaware Regiment in 1861. Yates was eighteen years old when he enlisted on September 14, 1861. He was mustered into service on October 17, 1861 at Hare's Corner by Lieutenant Derrickson as a Musician 3rd Class and was discharged on August 18, 1862, when the regimental bands were mustered out.
