Part of a set that descended in the family of John Richardson Latimer (1793-1865) of Wilmington, DE & Philadelphia, PA. Latimer was a merchant in the China trade who operated out of Philadelphia and shipped this set home on one of his own ships for his personal use. He is said to have acquired it in anticipation of his marriage to Elizabeth Caldwell Keppele of Philadelphia on July 18, 1834.
The porcelain remained in the Latimer family until it was acquired by the donor from Mr. Lerman Stewart (a descendant of Mary Latimer of Wilmington and Philadelphia).
