Description Hanging spring scale and basket used by the Allied Kid Company for weighing hides. The scale itself is made from steel that has been painted black. There is a heavy-duty steel hanging ring at the top and the attachment for the spring mechanism is at the opposite end. The round, 7" diameter dial registers up to 60 pounds and has a red indicator needle. Text on the upper part reads "60 lbs x 1oz / Hide Scale." There is a maker's stamp in the lower part for Chatillon. The unpainted steel hide basket attaches to the scale by three lengths of chain and has a rounded scoop at one side. The Allied Kid Company was formed in 1929 and was the largest exporter of kid leather in the U.S.A. during the 1940s.
