Double-sided World War II era cloth map printed on rayon featuring maps of parts of the Japanese islands of Hokkaido and Honshu. One side features a 20 1/2" x 18" color map of the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu at a scale of 1:1,000,000. Below the map is a detailed legend, index diagram, index to adjoining sheets, glossary, and altitude color key. The left margin also contains a conversion graph from meters to feet. The top margin contains title text "AAF Cloth Chart / Hakodate" (second edition AMS 2). Text above the legend in the lower left corner indicates that this chart is a second edition dated 1943 (first edition 1942).
The reverse side features an 18" x 20" color map of Nemuro on the tip of the island of Hokkaido at a scale of 1:1,000,000. Beloe the map is a detailed legend, index to boundaries, index to adjoining sheets, glossary, and altitude color key. The top margin contains title text "AAF Cloth Chart / Nemuro" (first edition AMS 2). Text above the legend in the lower left corner indicates that this chart is a first edition dated 1943.

|Provenance||The donor was given this item by an employee of the Kaumagraph Company of Wilmington, DE. The Kaumagraph Company was selected as a printer by the Army Map Service because of its extensive commercial experience with lithography on cloth and close proximity to both the DuPont Company and Washington, DC, where the Army Map Service was located.|
