Description Small relic piece of wood inscribed with the initials "WB" in ink. This item is said to be a piece of the boat in which General George Washington crossed the Delaware river on Christmas Day 1776 to attack Hessian mercenaries headquartered at Trenton, New Jersey.

Provenance This relic, the first to formally enter the Society's collections, was solicited for the Society from the Bringhurst family by Delaware's Episcopal Bishop, Leighton Coleman. The Bringhurst family dates back to the eighteenth century in Delaware but how they originally acquired the relic is unknown.
