Makers mark Black stamp on the inside of the crown: "Dubell / Wilmington, Del."
Description Hand-stitched man's black beaver top hat that has a 1 1/2" wide black wool band sewn over a black silk grosgrain ribbon at the base of the crown. It has an olive green sweatband and white plain weave silk lining that has a black stamp on the inside of the crown: "Dubell / Wilmington, Del." The brim is edged in black silk and the underside of the brim is black wool.

Provenance This top hat belonged to Thomas H. Savery (b. 1837; second son of Thomas and Hannah H. Webb Savery), who came to Wilmington, DE from Philadelphia, PA in 1864. He was associated with the Pusey & Jones Company in Wilmington and was at one time its President.
