Description "Gollywog" doll with a stuffed cloth body and plush stump hands, feet, and hair. The black and white striped trousers are not a separate clothing item but part of the cloth body. The red jacket, white waistcoat, and striped bowtie are sewn onto the body. The features are painted on. The doll still has its original tag for the "Cute 'n Soft" collection made by Lesser & Pavey, Ltd. in Kent, UK. The doll style is "Golly LPO881."

Provenance This doll came from the large collection of African American dolls that belonged to Brenda B. Mosely (1950-2012) of Newark, DE. The entire collection consisted of over 3000 African American-themed dolls that were housed in the basement of her Newark home in a private doll museum. Themes in the private museum included Afro-centric dolls dressed in African costume, glamor dolls, antique/vintage dolls, historically themed dolls, rag dolls, and family dolls (babies, grandmothers etc.)
