Framed New World map of North America and the West Indies published by Laurie & Whittle, London with text: "A new map of North America with the West India Islands divided according to the Preliminary Articles of Peace, signed at Versaille, 20 Jan., 1783, wherein are particularly distinguished the United States, and the several provinces, governments, etc. which compose the British Dominions, laid down according to the latest surveys and corrected from the original materials of Governor Pownall, Member of Parliament."
Information for this map was derived from surveys as early as the late 1750s when the British won large tracts of territory in North America and the West Indies from the French and Spanish. The original complier was Governor Thomas Pownall, who had returned form America prior to the American Revolution.
