Description |
Clear glass soft drink bottle with white ceramic and steel pop top and raised, clear glass lettering on side of bottle: "G. Verderamo / Wilmington, Del / This bottle / not to be sold." The ceramic top has red & black lettering: "G. Verderamo / 503-505 / Tatnall St. / Wilmington, Del." There is a patent stamp at the base of the ceramic top: "pat'd (R?) Hutter / Feb 8, 188?" Italian immigrant, Generoso Verderamo, came to Wilmington in 1898 began working as a bootblack (shoe shiner). In 1906, he entered the wholesale liquor business at 503-505 Tatnall Street and worked at various times as a bottler as well (1911-1916, 1918-1922, & 1928-1931). |
