"C.S. Hamilton / fecit / 1897" carved on the base near the handle.
Commemorative gavel with a 7 1/2" long oak handle with a carved terminal finial at the base and carved leaf decoration near the head. The head is 3" inch wide with two round ends and a triangular center portion with three carved panels. The head is said to have been carved from a piece of the buttonwood tree that stood beside the Old Crane Hook Church. The text and images on the three panels feature:
- carved text, "Crane Hook / 1667"
- a high relief carving of the church and graveyard with a tree
- (at base near handle) "C.S. Hamilton / fecit / 1897"
