Description Framed silhouette of Elizabeth Bell that depicts a 3 1/4" high bust portrait of a young woman facing right. The sitter wears her hair in a high bun and has a delicate collar at the neck. The silhouette is cut from piece of paper that is mounted over a black silk background. There is hand-written pen text to the lower left of the image: "Elizabeth Bell." The silhouette is mounted into a round walnut frame and there are two red and white adhesive stickers on the back with text: "Elizabeth Bell given by Mrs. C.L. Ward."

Provenance The donor acquired this and several other items from someone who had purchased them around 1928 from a Miss Ross, who lived with her father near Viola in Kent County. The subject may have a family connection to Delaware silversmith, Robert Ross, who was working in Frederica, DE around 1791.
