Description Unframed watercolor painting of Crane Hook Church by Robert Shaw (1859-1912). The black and white painting depicts an angle view of a log cabin-style church building with three small windows visible on one side, a pitched roof, and a simple bell tower at the peak of the roof on the side nearest the viewer. The painting is signed "R. Shaw" in the lower right corner. The painting is affixed to a 16 3/4" x 10 3/4" piece of mat board from a past framing.

Provenance Mrs. Thomas (Susan I.) Grier was the sister of Mrs. Oliver I. Kimball of Newton Center, MA, who commissioned Robert Shaw to paint several watercolors of ancestral sites associated with her family in 1896. Mrs. Kimball was the daughter of George Theodore Clark and Harriet Sellers Alrichs. She claimed descent though both parents from Tymen Stidham and Jean Paul Jaquet, while on her mother's side she was descended from Peter Alrichs.
