Description U.S. Navy Officer's service coat that belonged to Rear Admiral Samuel Francis du Pont (1803-1865). Double-breasted black wool frock coat with two rows of brass buttons down the front that have an eagle and anchor motif. It is lined with black polished cotton. The coat has a turned down collar with brass bars at each shoulder to attach epaulets (not present). Each sleeve is trimmed with three horizontal bands of gold metallic trim and four brass buttons that match those on the front of the coat (all present both sides).
