Provenance This watercolor is one of three done by Shaw - two others were painted for Henry C. Conrad & J. Cloud Elliott. Mrs. Thomas (Susan I.) Grier was the sister of Mrs. Oliver I. Kimball of Newton Center, MA, who commissioned Robert Shaw to paint several Delaware scenes in 1896. Mrs. Kimball was the daughter of George Theodore Clark and Harriet Sellers Alrichs. She claimed descent though both parents from Tymen Stidham and Jean Paul Jaquet, while on her mother's side she was descended from Peter Alrichs.
