Description Hand-stitched, wool, American Stars & Stripes flag with seven red and six white stripes that are printed onto the fabric. The 31 1/2" x 25 3/4" navy blue wool canton contains forty printed white stars. The 2 1/2" wide canvas hoist is a sleeve that has eight old tack holes along it and hand-written text on the upper corner, near the canton, on one side: "A.D. Warner."

Provenance The flag came with a note dated July 30, 1909 and signed by Emalea Pusey Warner (Mrs. A.D. Warner): "This flag was purchased by Mrs. A.D. Warner, Sr. on July 4, 1876 at 6:00 A.M. with a dividend of $6 from the little tug "Martha," which did useful harbor work."
