Description Framed oval pastel portrait of a woman from the Read family: Bust portrait of a young lady with short, dark brown bobbed ringlets and blue eyes. The subject wears a low-cut, off-the-shoulder blue dress. There is an inscription in ink on an old label on the back of the frame: "Mary Thompson, Wife of George Read 2nd", but the identity of the sitter is somewhat in question because she would have been the age the sitter appears to be around 1780 and the costume and hairstyle of the portrait date to the 1830s. The sitter might be Caroline Read (1820-1884), a daughter of George Read III and granddaughter of George Read II, but this is not certain.
