Description Native American stone ax head, probably from the mid to late Archaic Period (6000-1000 BC), made with a 1 1/2" groove at about 1" in from the rounded left side. There is an old, very worn label with type-written text affixed to one side: "Indian axe presented by / Samuel Townsend of / Townsend Delaware." This type-written label has been stuck over an earlier hand-written label.
